Description

You are invited to learn about a Griffith University research project funded through the TAFE Centre of Excellence. The project is focused on people with intellectual/neurodevelopmental disability who have complex needs and challenging behaviours (high anxiety, sensory and environmental triggers, challenges communicating needs that can culminate in self-harm, aggressive and destructive behaviours). We aim to develop a suite of training resources including short documentary films that can better prepare and enhance the skills, understandings, and capacities of disability support workers.

Our research team of Dr Clarissa Carden, A/Prof. Margaret Gibson, Prof. Barb Pini and Dr Kayla Mildren have lived experience as parents, siblings and carers of people with disability including complex needs and challenging behaviours.

We would very much like to see you at the session if you are:

  • Parents, family members, carers and siblings of people with intellectual disability and complex support needs.

  • Disability support workers (current or past) who have support at least one client with an intellectual and/or neurodevelopmental disabilities who displays complex and challenging behaviours.

  • Service providers who manage disability support workers

  • SIL managers

  • RTOs, trainers and educators involved in disability workforce development

Come along and learn about the project, what participation involves, and how your lived experience and insights as family members, support workers, service providers, trainers etc. can help us develop and design valuable learning resources in training.

We look forward to welcoming you!
