We are looking for leaders genuinely committed to equity and respect in our region to be Educators for a new initiative.
Background Information
Sikh Australian Support for Family Violence (SASFV) together with Women’s Health in the South East and Cardinia Shire Council are calling for interested volunteers to be community educators and learn how to deliver a program to help us raise awareness of family violence in our community and, what we can do to prevent it.
We are looking for men and women to be Community Educators and deliver a community program called Healthy Families Healthy Relationships over the next 4 months across the South East region of Melbourne.
As a volunteer you will be closely supported by SASFV to learn about the program and be supported to deliver the program safety and appropriately. Resources and training will be provided in the program, its underlying concepts and our referral pathways policies and processes.
What we are looking for?
Community Educators will:
- need to be able to deliver one HFHR Program (3 sessions) to a group of participants from their community
- need to have an interest in building healthier relationships and preventing family violence in their community
- need to have community networks to recruit 14-20 participants from their community
- have the confidence to facilitate a family education program to a group of adult participants, or a willingness to learn
It is beneficial to have:
- A genuine interest in volunteering, and contributing to their community
- An awareness and general understanding of family violence in the community and a passion to contribute to changing it
- An awareness in gender equality and a desire to promote it
Community Educators will be required to have a current working with children check and register their role with SASFV prior to starting.
