Ingrid Leary, Labour MP for Taieri
Since 2020, Ingrid has been the Labour Member of Parliament for Taieri – an electorate which draws together urban Dunedin South with parts of rural South Otago. Her offices are located in South Dunedin and Mosgiel, along with weekly constituent clinics in Milton and Balclutha. Ingrid was Chair of the Finance and Expenditure Committee and sat on the Economic Development Innovation and Science Committee. Previously she was on Foreign Affairs Defence and Trade. Ingrid also co-chaired the Inter-parliamentary Alliance on China, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Taiwan, and the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians. She was also the Ambassador for Women in the New Zealand Parliament. Of Dutch heritage, Ingrid is a member of Labour’s Ethnic Caucus. She is mother to three children of Pacific Island and Dutch-NZ heritage. Prior to Parliament, Ingrid was an international relations specialist, lawyer, parliamentary press secretary, university lecturer and broadcaster. In 2006, Ingrid received the New Zealand Special Service Medal for Bravery for her broadcasting work in the aftermath of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami in Aceh. She is also a Fellow of the Rosalynn Carter Mental Health Journalism Center.
Tangi Utikere, Labour Spokesperson for Public Transport
Prior to Tangi's election as the Member of Parliament for the Palmerston North Electorate in 2020, Tangi served 10 years on the City Council, and was the city’s first elected member of Pasifika heritage. Tangi was appointed Deputy Mayor in 2016, a position he held until his election to Parliament. Tangi is currently the opposition spokesperson for Local Government, Transport, State Owned Enterprises, and Racing, alongside being Deputy Shadow Leader of the House and a member of Parliament’s Transport and Infrastructure Committee. He has also recently served as a member of the Privileges Committee and Parliamentary Services Commission. During the current Parliamentary term, Tangi has also been opposition spokesperson for Small Business, Oceans and Fisheries and Associate Education (Pacific), as well as Labour’s Chief Whip. Since entering Parliament, Tangi has been a member of the Governance & Administration and Environment Select Committees, and the Chair of Parliament’s Health Select Committee. He has also spent time as a Junior Government Whip and Chief Government Whip. Tangi holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a Triple Major in History, Political Science and Social Policy, along with a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Secondary) from Massey University.
