Event description

It is extremely common for children to start school with undiagnosed hearing loss, despite the success of universal new-born screening.  Sound Scouts is an app that enables hearing problems in children of school entry age (4yrs and above) to be detected at home, in clinic or at school without access to hearing professionals. The test incorporates advanced hearing science in an engaging 6-8minute game. It’s the only children’s hearing test that’s fun.

Sound Scouts Founder, Carolyn Mee will introduce the Sound Scouts test. Motivated by the need to address the significant number of children starting school with undetected hearing loss, Carolyn has worked tirelessly for ten years to develop and deploy Sound Scouts, which is now an evidence based screening solution offered for free with the support of the Department of Health.

Utilising game-based technology, coupled with a rigorous trial and review process, Sound Scouts is an example of how an innovative solution can address issues of access, cost and effectiveness. Carolyn will explain the problem being addressed and the solution, in addition to how data can be used to constantly improve outcomes.

Sound Scouts is available from the App Store and Google Play. We recommend downloading the app on a mobile device and testing your hearing before the session. Please carefully follow the instructions to ensure you receive a reliable result.
