    Innovations in Soil Science | 8th-9th June, 2023

    A free program for professionals and practitioners - book for single day or two day attendance.

    On Thursday the 8th June, come along to Benalla to hear from a fantastic line up of speakers (as outlined below), which will feature: 

    • An update for agronomists and service advisors (soil sampling, soil test interpretation, economic implications of recommendations)
    • Where to next? Soil Practitioners training and accreditation

    On Friday the 9th June, self-drive to visit a soil pit on a property in Creightons Creek for intensive interpretation of key features and other key indicators of paddock conditions.

    9.15am - Bradley Costin (DEECA (Agriculture Victoria)) | The case for soil health

    10.00am - Morning Tea

    10.30am - Dr Jason Condon (Associate Professor in Soil Science, Charles Sturt University) | Soil acidity - why we need to change our management, identification of subsurface acidity & new management methods

    11.30am - Dr Helen Hayden (Soil Microbial Ecologist, University of Melbourne) | Soil microbiology & soil-plant microbe interaction

    12.30pm - Lunch 

    1.30pm - Jim Shovelton (Director and Senior Consultant, Meridian Agriculture)| Making the best use of testing to grow soil carbon

    2.15pm - Dr Gary Clark (Lecturer, Animal Plant & Soil Sciences, La Trobe University) | Understanding what's below 30cm - subsoil constraints & collecting data

    3.00pm - Afternoon Tea

    3.20pm - Panel - All presenters to join a panel for discussion from questions

    4.00pm - Where to Next? A presentation from Soil Science Australia on future training for participants
