Inspire STEM: Evolution of Australian Animals

Join our online investigation into Australia’s animals, habitats, and vegetation, where we will explore a range of topics almost as diverse as the creatures themselves. From bird beaks and claw adaptations, to the evolution of leaves, barks and flowers, and the environmental conditions that make the Australian bushland so unique. 

This interactive online workshop will give you practical insights into how to explore the creation of habitats and fascinating animal adaptations in an early childhood setting.

As always, our explorations focus on the “why”. Why is a kookaburra’s beak that shape? Why do some trees lose their bark and others lose their leaves? Why is wombat poo cubic? Why do we have two eyes, two nostrils, and two ears?

This online workshop is part of the Little Scientists Inspire STEM series, which will introduce the concepts, methods, and skills of inquiry-based STEM education to early childhood educators and teachers. Together, we will explore a range of simple techniques to cultivate children’s skills and excitement for STEM exploration and you will come away with a suite of hands-on STEM provocations to enrich your practice in your service or classroom.
