Event description

A workshop on the politics and ethics of protest recording.

Facilitated by broadcasters and organisers Mell Chun (The Sunday Paper Podcast, All the Best) and Phuong Tran (3CR Radical Radio), Race Matters invites you to a participatory introduction on recording and protests and radio as a n extension of community organising. Join Mell and Phuong as they take us through portable sound techniques, the history of radio and protest sonics, resisting surveillance, duty of care on the frontline, and stories of their recording and solidarity work.

This is an autonomous, closed event for First Nations and People of Colour, and those of the Global Majority marginalised by white supremacy. We will have the Race Matters team moderating the online space, and ask everyone to share an intention and about themselves upon registration. No previous radio, sound or organising experience needed.

Our event artwork is by Sehej Kaur.

This online workshop will be hosted across Gadigal and Wiradjuri lands. We honour and are indebted to the deep and ongoing ancestral practices of healing, story telling, sovereignty and commit to land back for all colonised peoples from Gadigal to Gaza.
