Event description

Once a month we will gather in central nipaluna/Hobart ~ finding freedom, movement and community. On the dance floor we welcome our whole self. Through conscious movement we release the masks of our everyday selves to come into deeper connection with ourselves, others and our shared humanness (and have a damn good time!)

Dance allows us to dive into our inherent interconnectedness, weaving together the threads of connection and expression with rhythm, breath, inspiration and joyful movement.

Ecstatic dance is a community space and we ask all the good humans who dance here to respect each other and honour the journey we share and co-create together.

What happens at Integrate Ecstatic Dance: This is a 2 hour dance beginning with a group opening meditation and warm up to drop-in collectively as a group, and to set your intention for the dance. We move into a 90-ish minute free-form dance, with light facilitation and plenty of space for you to dance and move freely. After our dance, we rest and close together as a group to ground and integrate the experience.

Dance guidelines:
Dance with freedom. Release judgement.
Dance with presence. Leave your phones and cameras behind.
Dance with clarity. This is a sober, drug and alcohol free event.

We ask that you refrain from talking on the dancefloor and be respectful of each other's space. Go barefoot or wear dance shoes. As you enter the space there will be a friendly human to welcome you in and show you the (more detailed) guidelines for this event. We aim to create a safe, respectful and fun space for all participants.

About your facilitators:
Cal Baker is a DJ, producer and promoter currently working in many areas of the local music industry. He has 3 years experience owning and operating an events company, working with a variety of local venues and hosting multiple touring artists from across the world. The bulk of his work takes place in the electronic music scene, both in nightclubs and at festivals; and he takes pride in creating and curating open, inclusive spaces for people to dance and freely express themselves. In his time doing this, he has recognised that these spaces, and the party culture that surrounds them isn’t suitable for everyone, and that our community is lacking in spaces for people to engage with music and express themselves in a more wholesome environment.

Lauren Burke is a trauma-informed 250hr yoga teacher, life coach, women's circle facilitator, and has a background in outdoor adventure guiding. She is experienced in facilitating groups and classes through 6 years of tour guiding and 3 years of teaching yoga and working with individuals. She loves creating spaces for people to come into deeper connection with themselves, whether that’s in a 1:1 session, in a circle, out in nature, or on the yoga mat and knows how important self-connection time is for building healthier relationships with each other and the world we live in. Her favourite things in the whole world are dancing with friends, and camping by herself in the mountains. (She chuckles to herself as she writes about herself in third person.)
