    Event description

    EVENT INFORMATION:

Join us for a day seminar hosted by the ANZAPPL SA Committee, focusing on the latest interdisciplinary developments in the field of terrorism. This event brings together leading experts from various disciplines to share their insights and experiences in understanding and addressing terrorism and violent extremism.

    GUEST SPEAKERS INCLUDE:

Distinguished Professor Jim Ogloff, AM, is the Dean, School of Health Sciences and University Distinguished Professor of Forensic Behavioural Science at Swinburne University of Technology. He leads the School of Health Sciences, one of Australia’s leading tertiary education health sciences schools. He also holds a senior advisory appointment in forensic mental health at the Victorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health (Forensicare).

Steve Barracosa, Psychologist, is based in NSW. He joined the JJNSW Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) team in May 2018 from Corrective Services NSW where he had been involved in the establishment and implementation of PRISM, CSNSW’s custody-based assessment and intervention services for terrorist offenders and those at risk of radicalisation. He is trained in a number of violent extremist risk assessment tools and is an accredited trainer of the VERA-2R tool.

Dr Clarke Jones, Criminologist. Dr Jones is a criminologist based at the School of Medicine and Psychology at the Australian National University (ANU). He works closely with communities that are often marginalised, hard-to-access, and at risk. This includes terrorist offenders and prison gangs in the Philippines as well as with specific marginalised and vulnerable communities in Australia.  His other areas of research expertise are on prison reform and terrorist inmate management, and he is currently exploring whether certain prison environments may inhibit or foster prison radicalisation and rehabilitation. Prior to academia, he worked for approximately 15 years in several areas of national security, including military, police, and intelligence.

Kerrie Beltrame (Psychologist) & Dr Catherine Crouch (Consultant Psychiatrist) are from the South Australia Fixed Threat Assessment Centre.
