Event description

The inaugural Intergenerational Fairness Summit, co-hosted in 2023 by the Founding Members of the Intergenerational Fairness coalition, Foundations for Tomorrow, Orygen, Think Forward, EveryGen and the Foundation for Young Australians, aimed to foster meaningful dialogue and find actionable avenues towards intergenerational fairness.

Now in its second year, the Intergenerational Fairness Summit will be hosted collaboratively by the more than 20 members of the Intergenerational Fairness Coalition and will serve as a landing pad for advancing future generations' policy in Australia. The Intergenerational Fairness Summit will take place after the UN Summit of the Future (Sept 22-23) to ensure local alignment with any newly established global standards and nurture a unified movement for intergenerational fairness in the lead-up to the Australian federal election.

The Intergenerational Fairness Summit will provide a complementary touchpoint to the ongoing engagements of the Parliamentary Group for Future Generations and the Intergenerational Town Hall for advocates, academics, policymakers and young leaders to continue building momentum and support for intergenerational fairness, the Australian wellbeing agenda and future generations policy.

The Summit will also serve as a platform for joint action and shared advocacy positions, channelling insights and proposals directly into tangible action, such as the Private Member’s Bill to introduce a federal Wellbeing of Future Generations Act, due to be introduced by Dr Sophie Scamps MP in February 2025.

Objectives of The Intergenerational Fairness Summit:

  • Build on the global momentum of the 2024 UN Summit of the Future to create a launchpad for domestic implementation and investments in intergenerational fairness.
  • Raise awareness and community engagement and strengthen unity around intergenerational fairness, the wellbeing agenda and future generations policy.
  • Identify inclusive and viable proposals for a uniquely Australian approach to long-term decision-making and governance.
  • Engage political champions ready to support policy innovation to advance intergenerational fairness and broker direct dialogue with influential stakeholders.

Keynote speakers and panellists will be announced soon.
