Intermezzo: Impressions
Description
Intermezzo: Impressions
An afternoon where art and music meet
Following its warmly received debut, Intermezzo returns with Impressions—an afternoon recital celebrating the connection between music and the visual arts.
Join Opera Australia mezzo-soprano Ruth Strutt and acclaimed singer and pianist Donna Balson at NERAM for an intimate performance in the inspiring surroundings of one of regional Australia's finest galleries. Together they present a thoughtfully curated programme that journeys from the elegance of Cesti and the rich lyricism of Saint-Saëns to the evocative sound worlds of Berg, the poetry of Vaughan Williams, and the distinctive voice of contemporary Australian composers Elena Katz-Chernin and Kate Miller-Heidke.
Like the paintings and sculptures that surround them, each work has been chosen for its colour, texture and emotional resonance. With personal stories shared throughout the performance and music experienced just metres from the artists, Intermezzo: Impressions invites audiences to discover familiar masterpieces alongside unexpected musical gems in a setting that celebrates creativity in all its forms.
After performing with Opera Australia and on concert stages across Australia, Ruth is delighted to return home to share this music with a community renowned for its love of the arts. Whether you're drawn by the gallery, the music, or simply the opportunity to spend an inspiring Sunday afternoon surrounded by creativity, Intermezzo: Impressions promises a memorable experience where paintings, sculpture and song come together.
