Myakka River Invasive Fish Roundup for International Coastal Cleanup Day

Do you love fishing and want to support Florida's state parks? Join us for a free event at Myakka River State Park in honor of International Coastal Cleanup Day!
Help restore native fish populations in the Myakka River by removing invasive species like Blue Tilapia, Armored Catfish, and Mayan Cichlid. You'll earn volunteer hours* and have a chance to win exciting prizes in categories such as Largest Haul, Heaviest Fish, and Most Individual Invasive Fish Species. Event Schedule:
September 21st:
8 AM - 11 AM: Fishing clinic, registration table, and interpretive program at the Upper Lake area.
8 AM - Park Close: Fishing continues for all participants.
September 22nd:
2 PM - 4 PM: Fishing clinic, weigh-in station, and interpretive program at the Upper Lake area.
4:30 PM: Prize awards to winning teams.
8 AM - 2 PM: Fishing continues; ensure you're at the weigh-in by 3 PM to avoid disqualification.
Participants will compete in teams of 1-4. All fish must comply with State of Florida regulations and be caught in legal fishing areas. Fish caught by boats or individuals without valid licensing or registration may be disqualified. Note that native fish are not eligible for prizes, and all fish must be kept on ice before weighing.
Participants must register online by 8am Saturday the 21st to qualify for free park entrance. All participants over the age of 13 must complete a short-term volunteer agreement upon arrival.
