International Day of the Girl Child is an annual and internationally recognized observance on October 11 that empowers girls and amplifies their voices.
UN Theme: ‘Girls’ vision for the future’ conveying both the need for urgent action and persistent hope, driven by the power of girls’ voices and vision for the future.
Soroptimist International Theme: Girls Into STEM. A vital right for all girls is the right to access education. Women are underrepresented studying and working in this field.
Guest Speaker: Elahi Karla
Elahi Kalra is the proud recipient of the prestigious Young Citizen of the Year award, recognising her outstanding contribution to the community. As a Youth Member in the Queensland Youth Parliament, she was elected as the Youth Minister for Education, Employment, Small Business, and the Arts. Her passion for youth advocacy extends through active participation in several councils, including the Woodridge and Waterford Advisory Council, Queensland Youth Engagement Strategy, and Griffith University Mates Council.
Elahi is dedicated to making a lasting impact on education and youth policy.
