ABOUT THE EVENT:
Affinity & UNAA NSW aim to celebrate that “friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and presents an opportunity to build bridges between communities…can contribute to the efforts of the international community… towards the promotion of dialogue among civilizations, solidarity, mutual understanding and reconciliation”.
ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:
The Hon Prof Bob Carr is the longest continuously serving Premier in the history of New South Wales. Bob entered the Senate in 2012 and served as Australia’s Foreign Minister for 18 months. Since leaving politics Bob has led a distinguished career as a defacto diplomat, author and academic. Bob received the Fulbright Distinguished Fellow Award Scholarship. He has served as Honorary Scholar of the Australian American Leadership Dialogue. He is the author of: My Reading Life (2008), Thoughtlines (2002) and Diary of a Foreign Minister (2014) and his political memoir Run for Your Life (2018). For five years he was the Director of the Australia-China Relations Institute at UTS and in May 2019 he was appointed Professor of Industry in Climate and Business at UTS.
Prof Sev Ozdowski AM OAM FRSN is Professor and Vice Chancellor's Fellow at Western Sydney University and Honourary Professor of the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Sydney. He was the Australian Human Rights Commissioner and Disability Discrimination Commissioner at the then-named Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission from 2000-2005. He has also headed the Office of Multicultural and International Affairs in South Australia for five years, and is the Immediate Past President of the Australian Council for Human Rights Education (2006-19). Sev is Chair of the Australian Multicultural Council (since 2014).
Lisa McMillan has 30 years’ experience in the media, having worked in commercial radio, newspapers, the ABC and SBS. She was a Senior Executive since 1987, managing radio newsrooms and ABC NewsRadio in Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney. She worked as Radio Editor for SBS Radio, and Planning Editor for SBS TV, Radio and Online. She retired in 2015 to concentrate on windsurfing, sailing and learning languages. Lissa is also a valuable member of Affinity’s advisory board.
