Description

Please join us for the upcoming TTMHN session with Cliff Chen of National Disability Ethnic Alliance, whose research experience has focus primarily on the intersection of CALD communities, psychosocial disability and mental health.

For people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, a range of cultural, social and systemic factors can influence wellbeing, access to support and experiences of recovery.

This session will explore the intersection of CALD communities, mental health and psychosocial disability, drawing on frontline practice experience as well as policy and system perspectives. It will consider some of the barriers people may experience in accessing and navigating mental health and disability supports, alongside considerations for providing culturally responsive, inclusive and person-centred support.

The session will also reflect on the role of relationships, family and community in people’s experiences of mental health and recovery and consider broader implications for service delivery and policy.

Key themes include:

  • CALD experiences of mental health, psychosocial disability and access to support.

  • Cultural, migration and systemic factors affecting access to mental health and disability services.

  • Relationships, family and community in culturally responsive and person-centred support.

  • Considerations for inclusive service delivery and practice.

  • Broader implications for services and policy.

This session is intended for mental health professionals, disability service providers, community sector workers and policy makers interested in culturally responsive and inclusive practice.

This is a valuable opportunity to deepen your learning, connect with peers, and engage in discussion with colleagues across the network.
