Wed, 3 Sep, 10:15pm - 11:15pm EDT

Event description

This presentation will examine the intersections between domestic and family violence and migration law. It will highlight the Family Violence Provisions under the Migration Act, explore differing definitions of domestic and family violence, and address the challenges posed by misidentification of respondents in Protection Orders and visa applications.

The session is facilitated by solicitors from Women’s Legal Service Queensland’s Temporary Visa Program. As of 1 July, this program has transitioned from a pilot to a fully funded service, WLSQ now provides migration, family law, and domestic violence legal assistance to women on temporary visas who are experiencing violence.
