Digital Speaker Series: Rising up for our Rights
Event description
UPDATE: THIS EVENT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED. IF YOU PURCHASED TICKETS IN DECEMBER, YOUR TICKETS ARE STILL VALID
Our four speakers have been activists for many years, rising up to defend the rights of their communities. In theory, human rights mean equality for all — it's an inspiring mantra. Is the human rights framework working for marginalised communities? And if not, what's next?
Our panellists are ideally placed to consider this question, and what the next steps are for the activist struggle.
intertwine is thrilled to have these amazing people joining us to discuss whether using the human rights framework is still appropriate for addressing intersectional marginalisation:
- Marjorie Thorpe, Djab Wurrung woman, currently involved in the Supreme Court case against the Victorian Government's disregard of Djab Wurrung Country
- June Riemer, proud Dhungutti woman from the North Coast of NSW and Deputy CEO, First Peoples’ Disability Network
- Marcella Brassett, Asylum Seeker Resource Centre
- Amao Leota Lu, Fa'afafine Performance Artist and activist
