Intervention Strategies for Suicide Prevention - Brisbane

Enhance your practice skills for sensitively assessing and carefully responding to those who may be at risk of suicide.
This training will assist practitioners to develop their skills in working compassionately and collaboratively with people who are at risk of suicide. Practitioners will be guided to ensure that these interventions are supportive, inclusive, and delivered in a culturally safe and appropriate context.
This training will discuss trauma-informed approaches to suicide risk screening and assessment. It will also explore strategies and resources for the collaborative development of a safety plan to ensure ongoing care for those at risk of suicide.
Self care practices for workers who are supporting people who may be at risk of suicide will also be explored.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Outline and apply the steps involved in suicide risk assessment
- Outline and apply the steps involved in suicide intervention and safety planning
- Understand that some people may face additional risks and barriers to seeking support, this includes people who identify from diverse and/or high risk groups
- Feel increased confidence in safely and ethically responding to risk of suicide
- Have an increased knowledge of resources for suicide prevention and intervention.

Who should attend
This workshop is for workers in domestic and family violence, sexual violence and women's health and well-being services who are seeking to improve their skills in assessing and responding to suicide risk.
About the presenter/s
Tania Felstead
Tania Felstead is a Social Worker with over 25 years experience in the human service and social welfare sector, having held responsibilities as frontline practitioner, supervisor, manager, trainer and consultant. For the past six years, Tania has operated her own consulting business supporting individuals, communities, teams and organisations to work as meaningfully and successfully as possible in their chosen areas of practice.
Tania is tenaciously committed to ensuring social justice for all people in our communities and in particular for our most vulnerable who have been traumatised due to abuse, violence and social disadvantage. Tania offers counselling, supervision, coaching, training services and program support to a broad range of talented practitioners and organisations Queensland wide. This includes domestic and family violence services, family support services, child protection, mental health and generalist support services where practitioners are particularly susceptible to secondary stress due to their continual exposure to high risks and other people’s trauma.
