Intimate Opera - Pocket Tosca
Event description
Puccini’s dramatic master-work only gains in impact as the decades roll on. Viewed originally as an a-typical 19th century example of feminine strength and independence, today’s audiences revere this very quality as a significant milestone in the centuries long march of emancipation. This pocket production captures the musical and dramatic power of the score and libretto but is also laced with comic interjections from the Sacristan which many productions fail to recognise as Puccini’s deliberately contrasting theatrical element.
This production boasts first-class Australian principal singers. They are drawn from Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney, giving the production a truly national perspective.
This performance will be at the famous Gables on Finch heritage-rich venue in Malvern East, home of the Royal Commonwealth Society Victorian Branch. The RCS is a valuable benefactor for the project and without whom the Pocket Tosca season could not have eventuated. The season was similarly supported by Melbourne-based Hans and Petra Henkell whose philanthropy, like that of the RCS, was critical to the development of the Pocket Tosca project.
Opera performance followed by cocktail evening of canapes and drinks where you can meet with the artists.Â
