Intorudction to Flower Pressing Workshop
Description
Introduction to Flower Pressing + Matcha
Join pressed flower artist and educator Joanna Hiu for this exclusive flower pressing experience in collaboration with Kings Park Botanic Garden and Aiko Matcha.
Designed for beginners, this intimate workshop invites you to slow down, work with your hands and discover the timeless art of pressing and preserving flowers.
Joanna is a Perth-based pressed flower artist who specialises in transforming meaningful flowers into lasting artworks. Drawing on years of experience working with flowers, she will guide you through the foundations of flower pressing and share the techniques she uses within her own artistic practice.
We’ll begin the morning with Aiko Matcha, who will introduce you to matcha and share a little about its preparation before you enjoy a freshly prepared matcha as we settle into the flower pressing experience. Then it’s time to get hands-on with flowers.
You’ll learn how to select flowers for pressing, how to prepare different varieties and foliage, and why different flowers require different approaches to achieve the best results. Joanna will demonstrate her techniques and guide you as you prepare and press a beautiful selection of fresh flowers yourself.
Along the way, you’ll learn how to care for your flowers throughout the pressing process, what to look out for, common mistakes to avoid and how to continue experimenting with flower pressing at home.
This is more than an introduction to a new craft. It’s an opportunity to spend a few hours surrounded by flowers, enjoy matcha and experience the process of creating slowly and intentionally in the beautiful setting of Kings Park.
