Intro to Birding
Description
Are you interested in birding but want some know-how to get you started? This event is tailored for brand new birders!
The event will start with a short presentation from our Biodiversity Officer, Jess Kelley on identifying features and terminology that will help you ID different bird groups and species, as well as general binocular use. After the presentation, you will be taken on a guided walk through the sanctuary to practice your new birding skills.
This event is part of the Great Southern Bioblitz. We encourage attendees to record what they see during this event and upload sightings via iNaturalist to contribute to this project.

FAQs
- What do I need to bring?
Please dress appropriately for the weather (eg. appropriate footwear - no thongs or heels). If you have your own pair of binoculars please bring them, otherwise we will loan you a pair for the session.
- How much walking is there?
This experience includes slow walking up to 1km with regular stops through the Sanctuary. Note that though we are stopping, there will be little or no seating available after the initial presentation. Please let us know if walking long distances or standing for extended periods is difficult for you.

- What happens if it rains?
Wildlife don't mind a little bit of rain, so the event will go ahead even if light showers are expected. We may cancel in the event of extreme weather conditions (eg. high winds or heavy rainfall); but we will contact you directly if this occurs.
