Event description
Join us on a Guided Bush Tucker Walk led by Lisa Powell, a local Gubbi Gubbi elder. Lisa will lead you on a short discovery tour at the ridge of the Mapleton National Park, near Yandina town, introducing you to some of our Bush Tucker plants and explaining their cultural significance and uses.
The three-hour workshop begins at 9am (8:45 registration for a 9am start) with a bush taker walk. You’re welcome to take notes and ask questions along the walk. We’ll then have a break for morning tea around 10:30am. After that Lisa will show some items and cultural aspects of Gubbi Gubbi culture where participants are welcome to ask questions.
Location: Wild & Wise Tribe, 6 mins from Yandina town centre.
Please note: This event is targeted at adults only but 12+years old are welcome as long as they participate with an adult guardian. Tickets are limited to 20 people only.
The walk will take place regardless of the weather, so please bring an umbrella/raincoat and wear hiking/non-slip shoes. A minimum level of fitness is necessary to walk uphill and the in the non-levelled forest ground.

Frequently asked questions
Answer questions your attendees may have about the event, like accessibility and amenities.
Who are the facilitators of this event?
Lisa Powell, Gubbi Gubbi elder and Educator, will lead the walk and talk about the Gubbi Gubbi culture. Nelson Eulalio, the Wild & Wise Tribe founder, holistic counsellor and qualified outdoor education facilitator will co-facilitate.
What should I bring?
Please wear enclosed shoes, sun-smart clothes (and sunscreen), a hat and bring a water bottle. If there is a chance of rain, please also bring a rain jacket. Some refreshments will be provided but please feel free to bring your favourite snacks.
Is it a theoretical or practical workshop?
It is mostly a walk and talk but please bring a notebook and pen to take notes. It is also a way to create a healthy habit of journaling experiences in nature, reflections, etc.
What time should I be there?
8:45am is the check-in for a 9am start.
What if it is raining?
The workshop will run even if it is a rainy day. That is part of the outdoor education life and :) We have a few areas undercover in any case. The only reason to pause/cancel an outdoor workshop is due to a lightning storm within 30km.
Is there parking onsite?
The property has very limited car parking spots so we'll all be meet on the main road where a Google Maps pin will be sent by email. That has plenty of space to park. From there we'll walk just about 50m. There are plenty of nice coffeeshops in Yandina if you want to bring one on your way.:)
