Event description

Class Description: In this six-week studio experience, students will learn how to transfer images using matte medium. We will collect images from old magazines to create unique compositions to transfer onto different surfaces, including paper, fabric, and wood. We will also experiment with adorning these compositions with a variety of methods, such as drawing on top or adding embroidery. No experience is required, but students should be playful, curious, and ready to have a good time.

Days: Saturdays, Sept 13 - Oct 18, 2025

Time: 9am-12pm

Location: Lower Epperson Bldg., room EA B101. CAMPUS MAP

Instructor: Mol Mir grew up determined to be an artist in the lush land of North Carolina. Art and biology were always a part of Mol’s life, even when they moved half-way across the country to attend Kansas City Art Institute. But after the first year in school, Mol felt there was something missing, so they enrolled in a biology course at UMKC and took a chance on a new department at KCAI: Interactive Arts. There, Mol became enamored with cells and organelles. Seeking possible doorways into science paid off when an internship with Stowers Institute for Medical Research turned into a full-time position. Mol currently serves at Stowers as the Science Visualization Specialist where they interact with high resolution images of cells from a very special flatworm, and develop new ways of sharing this data.

Supplies: The instructor will contact registered students directly regarding materials and supplies.

Parking: Parking is available in any of the (NON-RESERVED) KCAI parking lot spaces across campus. RESERVED spaces are available after 5pm on the weekdays and all day on the weekends. There is also available street parking surrounding KCAI campus.

Refund: Registered participants can receive refunds to the original payment method (Studio Fee minus Humanitix Fee) up to 14 days before the first class.
