Description

Drawing Nourishment from Ancient Wells: An Introduction to Mussar with Kirva

In this political moment, many of us feel burnout. As we navigate rising authoritarianism, communal division, and uncertainty about the future, it can feel as though we are moving through a drought—of time, energy, hope, and connection. Jewish tradition reminds us that even in dry seasons, there are deep wells to draw from.

Join us for Drawing Nourishment from Ancient Wells: An Introduction to Mussar with Kirva, an accessible entry point into the centuries-old tradition of Mussar, applied Jewish ethics, offering tools for cultivating resilience, moral clarity, humility, courage, and compassion. These practices help us stay rooted when the ground feels unsteady and reconnect with the values that drive our work to grow a more just world.

This four-session workshop will take place on August 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th from 5:00–6:00 PM ET on Zoom. Because each session builds on the previous one, participants are expected to attend and/or watch the recordings of all four sessions. Mussar is a communal practice, and will best support you when attending the sessions live. When registering, please select either date listed, as our registration platform does not support multi-session programs. The Zoom link will remain the same throughout the series, and participants will receive calendar invitations for all four sessions within a few days of registering.

Together, we will explore how Mussar supports personal growth while strengthening our capacity to show up for one another and for the work of justice with integrity, groundedness, and care. Through Jewish text, reflection, and practice, participants will deepen their understanding of Mussar and begin building habits that can sustain them in challenging times.

No prior experience with Mussar is required. For those participating in Disability Wisdom as Soul Care, Fight Like a Mensch or Dismantling Racism from the Inside Out, this workshop fulfills the program's required introduction to Mussar.
