Intro to Native Seed Collection and Processing

As we may well all know, native seed is crucial to nurseries and the restoration sector in general. What might be less well known is where it comes from, how old the stock is, how it was collected and processed, how best to store it, what the parent plants were like etc...

In knowing this information, we can better influence our success in the nursery and in the field, while reducing costs and spending more time in the bush!

In this inaugural workshop for our Native Seed Program, Richard McDowell from Wheatbelt Native Nurseries will walk us through everything from licensing and legislation to botany basics, collection, processing and storage. The workshop aims to enable us to make a start in seed sourcing in a controlled and more standardised manner with the hope to build a cohort of passionate, skilled and able volunteers that may contribute to some or all parts of the Native Seed Program.

Whether you're interested in seed biology, genetics and germination or you just want to spend time in the bush with cool plants and like-minded people, this day is a good one for you.

Unfortunately spaces are limited so get in quick. If you miss out, fear not, there will be more opportunities to learn and take part in the months to come.
