Event description

Join us for a special community session to learn about one of our region’s rarest and most fascinating birds – the Blue-winged Parrot.

Blue-winged Parrots have recently been recorded breeding in Meredith and Ballan, with new sightings increasing thanks to the work of local volunteers and Birdlife Bass Coast. Come along to hear from Sue and Neil Woolley, passionate members of the Blue-winged Parrot Working Group, a volunteer-led initiative that began with the BirdLife Bass Coast network in 2022.

What to expect:

  • Talk 1: Sue Woolley will introduce the Blue-winged Parrot and share what we currently know about its ecology and conservation needs.

  • Morning Tea Break: Enjoy a cuppa and connect with fellow attendees. (Morning tea provided)

  • Talk 2: Neil Woolley will provide a deep dive into recent volunteer efforts to monitor and protect this species, including updates on the 2024–25 breeding season and exciting trials of new nestbox designs.

This is a great opportunity to get involved, learn from experienced volunteers, and contribute to citizen science and on-ground conservation.

This project is proudly supported by volunteers, private donors, BirdLife Australia and the Wettenhall Environment Trust.

All are welcome!
