The Introduction to Campaigning Workshop is a two-day online training for changemakers to develop the foundational skills to create systems change through strategic campaigning.

The workshop is for people who are either new to campaigning or whose primary role is adjacent to campaigning, to inspire them about the role of campaigning and in social and systems change, and introduce them to key concepts around power and designing winning campaigns.

Participants will come out of this workshop with the skills to become active contributors in developing and implementing campaign strategies in their organisations and movements.

Learning Outcomes
  • Ability to recognise the role of power in shaping our systems and policies, and the ways in which effective campaigning can rebalance power.
    • Different faces and sources of power
    • Power within systems
    • How to shift power (including in ways that build solidarity and justice)
  • Understanding of key concepts and tools in designing effective campaigns.
    • Theories of change
    • Critical paths
    • Target-centred campaigning
    • Strategy vs tactics
  • Recognising the need for different roles in movements, and movement ecosystems.
    • Roles in social change
    • Tips for effective collaborations and alliances
  • Understanding the role of framing as part of shifting the narrative around campaign issues.
    • Framing as foundational to effective messaging
    • Engaging different audiences
    • Importance of analysing the narrative

Scholarships

We offer full and partial scholarships ($170+GST) for First Nations people, people with disability, people of colour, refugees and people seeking asylum as well as unwaged activists. To apply for a scholarship, please complete an application here.
