Introduction to Commercial Casting (18+)
Description
Ever wondered what actually happens inside a commercial casting room? This is your chance to find out from the person running it.
Introduction to Commercial Casting is a practical, on camera workshop for Actors who identify as having mild to moderate intellectual disability and/or autism who want to understand how commercial casting works and how to walk into the room ready.
Over three hours, casting director Liza Brock takes you through the two skills every commercial actor needs: a confident chat to camera, and a strong audition in a real commercial casting setup.
This workshop is also your introduction to the full Lights On eight week program, a Brock Casting initiative. It gives you a taste of how we train, how we work, and what the full program builds on.
What Makes This Workshop Different?
You're not learning casting from a textbook or social media. You're learning it from a working casting director with more than 30 years in the Australian screen industry, in a small group where everyone gets real time on camera. Clear instructions, a supportive room, and genuine industry feedback.
Who It's For
Neurodivergent actors and actors with intellectual disability who want to break into commercials or sharpen their casting skills.
No prior screen experience is needed. If you've been curious about commercial work, this is the place to start.
Adults (18 and over): For performers building a screen career or looking to add commercial work to what they already do.
What You'll Learn.
How commercial casting works. Who is in the room, what the casting director is looking for, how a brief is written, and what happens to your tape after you leave.
The chat to camera. What it is, why casting directors ask for it, and how to structure one so your personality shines through in under a minute. You'll practise on camera and get direct feedback.
The commercial casting. A mock casting run the way a real one runs. You'll read a brief, take direction, handle a redirect, and perform on camera with Liza in the casting director's chair.
What happens next. How to present yourself professionally, what to do with your self tapes, and how the Lights On eight week program takes these skills further.
