Cyber Week: Introduction to Digital Forensics & Forensic Science

This workshop introduces the principles of digital forensics as applied to incident response (based on NIST 800-86) and digital forensic science as applied to criminal investigation.

The presenter, Dr Matthew Sorell, is Adjunct Professor of Digital Forensics at the Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia; senior lecturer in telecommunications and multimedia engineering and digital forensic science at the University of Adelaide; and a digital investigations consultant in private practice to law enforcement.

The workshop provides an introductory understanding of the methodologies, tools and techniques for an effective digital forensic analysis and reporting process.

The course will consider current emerging challenges including contemporary data acquisition, managing scale and scope, and common pitfalls in investigation. Case studies will include multimedia and mobile phone evidence.

The workshop is designed to be an introductory level session suitable for IT Professionals and students with a Cyber interest.
