Introduction to generative AI for teaching staff
Event description
Are you new to generative AI? Overwhelmed and not sure where to start? In this workshop you will be guided to use generative AI for the first time, and see how students may be using it in your course.
Generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini, are reshaping the world of education. The best place to start is by using the tools yourself and experiencing how they work and what their limitations are. In this workshop you will use Microsoft Copilot to experience the power of generative AI, and see first hand how students may be using these tools in their work. You will also see some of the possibilities for using these tools for teaching and course design.
Note: this workshop was previously run under the title Explore generative AI from a student perspective. The title has been changed to better reflect the content.
Learning objectives
In this workshop, you will be supported to:
familiarise yourself with different generative AI tools (ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot) and how students may be using them
test how a student could use AI to write a response to your assignments
access University AI guidelines and resources, including for correctly citing AI use.
