Event description

Inference-Based CBT is an evidence-based treatment for OCD. Yet it is hardly being used in Aotearoa New Zealand. This one hour lecture will provide an introduction to I-CBT. If there is sufficient interest, it will be followed in 2026 with a full I-CBT workshop.

I-CBT is an upstream modality that targets the obsessional doubt of the OCD cycle. When the obsessional doubt is resolved, then the anxiety and compulsive aspects of OCD do not take place. I-CBT is completed through 12 modules. This training will give clinicians a brief overview of I-CBT, its mechanism of change, and its 12 modules.

Bronwyn Shroyer is a United States based Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Co-Founder of OCD Training School. Her clinical practice focuses on treating those with OCD, OCD+PTSD, and/or infidelity trauma. Bronwyn is one of the first Inference-based CBT trainers in the world and is trained by I-CBT co-founder, Dr. Frederick Aardema. In her work with OCD Training School, Bronwyn provides training on OCD and PTSD, in addition to cultivating a training library for OCD, related disorders, and co-occurring conditions with both live and on demand courses for clinicians. In partnership with Dr. Frederick Aardema, she and her OCD Training School co-founders created the world’s first Self Help Course for using I-CBT with OCD. Bronwyn is the co-chair of the IOCDF I-CBT SIG and has presented at conferences. She enjoys providing consultations for clinicians in individual and group formats to discuss OCD and OCD+PTSD case conceptualization. Bronwyn is trained in Ex/RP by the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety at UPENN and is also an EMDRIA Approved Consultant for EMDR.
