Description

Who's ready for Adventure? Join Karen Yeowell of the New England Orienteering Club for a two-hour introduction to orienteering class at Nobscot Scout Reservation. Orienteering is an outdoor navigational sport where participants use a map and compass to navigate through unfamiliar terrain to find checkpoints in a designated order. Karen has been teaching youth and adults how to navigate in the woods for over a decade as a scout leader and instructor for the New England Orienteering Club. Participants may bring thier own compass if they have one, otherwise compasses and maps will be provided. Class will be entirely outside and will include some off-trail navigation. Sturdy footwear and long pants are recommended. Park in the front day use lot at 1 Nobscot Road.

Park at One Nobscot Road.

Children under 18 are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Photography will be taken during this event. If you do not want to be photographed, please let the photographer know.

This program is not suitable for dogs. Please leave your pets at home.

SVT is a nonprofit land trust that conserves vital natural areas in the region between Boston and Worcester, Massachusetts.

We care for some of this region’s most important forests, wetlands, and grasslands—natural areas that support wildlife habitat, working farms, and recreational trails. As of Spring 2026, SVT cares for more than 6,240 acres in 96 SVT-Owned Conservation Areas and 107 Conservation Restrictions, and we have protected more than 85 miles of trails. Since our inception, we have assisted other organizations and governmental agencies in protecting an additional 3,000 acres in the region.

Program Policies

Registration and Fees

Registration is required for all programs unless noted. When a program has filled to capacity, registrants will be added to a wait list and be contact if a spcae becomes available. Most of our programs are free, but if a program has a fee please pay online when registering.

Directions and Instructions

Confirmation emails will include driving and parking directions and any special instructions you will need for the program.

Cancellations

If a program is cancelled due to weather conditions, the leader will notify participants via email. If you need to cancel, please let us know right away (email svt@svtweb.org) so we can offer your spot to someone on the wait list.
