This workshop is being run as part of a collaboration between Queensland Cyber Infrastructure Foundation (QCIF) and National Computing Infrastructure (NCI).

This workshop will introduce the building blocks of the Python scripting environment. Participants will learn about simple and complex data types, conditionals and looping in Python. This workshop will prepare participants to carry out batch analysis and equip them with the knowledge to start creating automated pipelines to increase data processing power and productivity on the NCI ARE platform.

This workshop will take place over four mornings (9:00-12:30pm AEST / 10:00-1:30 AEDT): 25th to 28th November. Please only register if you are able to fully commit to attending *all* four sessions.

FAQs

What should I bring into the event?

This is an online workshop, so you will need to provide your own computer, and have access to a reliable internet connection sufficient for video conferencing. A second monitor is highly recommended.  This workshop will introduce you to working with Python on the NCI ARE platform, instructions will be provided prior to the workshop.  

Chromebooks and tablets are not suitable for this workshop; you will need a full-function computer.

What prior experience do I need?

No specific experience is required, although previous use of the command line interface will be helpful.

Who should attend?

This workshop is open to all researchers from Australian Universities and researchers from organisations utilising the National Computing Infrastructre (NCI).

Researchers looking for scripting capabilities to run batch analyses, to link processes to create a basic pipeline, or to automated repeated tasks for efficiency and reproducibility. The workshop is relevant for all disciplines.

What's the cancellation policy?

Cancellations are accepted up to 72h before the start of the workshop. If you do not join on the day without having cancelled beforehand, you may be blocked from attending any future QCIF training workshops.
