Nau mai, haere mai to the Introduction to Rongoā rākau wānanga / workshop, All welcome. Please read all the information below, nga mihi.

What the wānanga will cover: Introduction to some of the rākau used in rongoā rākau / Māori plant medicine. Learn about the whakapapa of the rākau we cover over the weekend. The correct ways to identify, harvest and prepare rākau for use in rongoā, following tikanga and kawa. Learn how the rākau we cover over the weekend can help hauora physically and spiritually. Learning what mauri is and the mauri of the rākau we cover over the weekend and how to connect with the mauri of our rākau. We will make an Inu / Tea, Balm and Lotion applying tikanga and kawa using some of the rākau we cover over the weekend for you to take home. Learn the correct way to to store, label rākau and rongoā products. Awareness of what a rongoā product is, as it is much more than a balm or lotion. How the rākau we cover over the weekend can be linked to the Te whare tapa whā - Māori hauora model when using them for hauora/ health purposes and so much more! The content will be spread out over the course of the weekend.

What you will receive during the wānanga: Teachings passed down to me by wairua and our rākau, some of my previous kaiako and mentors. Handbook containing over 20 pages of rongoā rākau matauranga/ information, that you keep to support your rongoā rākau haerenga/ journey that also contains some karakia that can be used for rākau rongoā purposes. I will supply the equipment, ingredients, packaging and labels for the rākau rongoā products/ Inu we make for you to take home. Certificate of attendance after completion of the wānanga. Support, guidance and aroha in an ego free, safe non judgmental learning space and so much more. It's going to be a weekend full of wholesome goodness!

* Please note this is an introduction to rākau rongoā, this wānanga is a tool to add to your kete to support your rākau rongoā haerenga/ journey it does not make you a qualified rākau rongoā/ rongoā māori practitioner.

Cost: $240 per person for the whole weekend. No extra cost if you choose to stay the night. * Option to pay it off before the wānanga (if you choose to pay it off please message Morganz Light Aotearoa to organize this, must be paid in full before the wānanga) Spaces are limited to 10 people. 

Accommodation: Option to pitch a tent in the fully fenced lawn or sleep in my lounge marae styles if you choose to stay the saturday night, No extra cost to stay. Some bedding, air beds, couch and tent available to use if needed for no extra cost. Showers and toilets available to use. Supermarkets and other amenities are close by.

Kai/ Food for the weekend: Shared lunch for both days, please bring something wholesome and healthy to contribute.

Morning and afternoon teas provided (please let me know of any dietary requirements, I will do my best to meet them).

Dinner: Contribute kai towards making a nutritious shared dinner for those that stay. Option for me to teach you how to integrate some rākau while cooking kai for dinner to aid hauora.

Breakfast: Supply your own breakfast, you can use the kitchen to make your breakfast, plates, cups, utensils and toaster, stove etc available to use, please clean up after yourself if using the kitchen.

What to bring: Camping/ fold out chair, Sunhat, Clothes, Medications, Bedding, Tent and air bed if you have one for those who choose to stay. Good walking footwear as we will go for a walk to a park near me to see some rākau for identifying purposes, Pen and paper to take notes, Kai for a shared lunch for both days and towards shared dinner if staying, Drink bottle, Warm jersey or jacket, Toiletries, Phone charger, Breakfast and anything else you may require for the weekend.

Itinerary for the weekend: Saturday: 10 am Arrive and whanaungatanga/ Introductions & Morning tea, 11 am Wānanga starts, Lunch at 1pm - 1:45pm, 1:45 pm Wānanga continues, 3 pm Afternoon tea, 3:15 pm Wānanga continues and aim to finish at 4:30 - 5 pm the Saturday. Sunday: Start at 9 am, Morning tea 10:30 am, Wānanga continues at 10:45 am, Lunch at 12:30 pm, 1pm wānanga continues and aim to finish at 3pm on the Sunday. This is flexible and may change over the course of the weekend.
