INTRODUCTION TO WOODWORK
This one-day class is a shorter version of our Introduction to the Wood Workshop but still packs a punch with what you experience and learn. It is suitable for beginners, novices and women looking for confidence in power tools often used in the home environment.
Our small class sizes and supportive, friendly approach will enable you learn a range of common woodworking tools and equipment whilst creating a project you can either take home or gift to the community, supporting kindergartens, schools, our WomenzShed Empowerment Fund and non-profit partners like Urban Ark – Manawa Taiao and Oke.
Once completed, you can continue your woodworking journey into our carpentry or cabinetry classes.
Where:
Held at our dedicated workshop space in Moselle Avenue, Henderson only a few minutes from SH16, just off Lincoln Road.
Duration:
6 hours (with break for lunch)
Open to:
Women aged 18+ years
Session includes:
You'll learn a range of common woodworking techniques and tools including:
timber basics
measuring and cutting accurately
a range of hand tools
planing
electric saws including jig-, circular and compound mitre saws
fixings (nails/screws/hinges)
drills and impact driver
What to expect:
All materials and equipment are provided
1/2 hour break for lunch - bring your own or buy local
All workshop PPE (eye, ear, respiratory protection) will be available but we recommend to bring your own if you have them especially masks if you are sensitive to dust
Maximum of 8 people per workshop (minimum of 3 to run)
