Description

Most officers move into investigations with no formal preparation, learning case building through trial and error while working live files. That gap costs agencies cases through mishandled evidence, incomplete reports, and warrants that don't hold up to legal challenge.

Investigations! For LEOs & New Investigators closes that gap with a practical 6-step investigative framework that applies across case types, from property crimes to financial fraud. Attendees leave with one repeatable system they can run on the next case that lands on their desk, not a stack of disconnected tips.

This four-hour live online session covers case organization and caseload management, search warrants, arrest warrants, victim and suspect interviews, and courtroom-ready case reports, taught by Master Detective Phillip Klimpel of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

What You Will Learn

  • The 6-step investigative framework: structuring a case from first assignment through closure, including case organization and caseload management

  • Building and articulating probable cause correctly, the foundation every warrant, arrest, and prosecution depends on

  • Property crimes investigation: burglary, theft, retail theft rings, pawn shop cases, and felony trespass

  • Crimes against persons investigation: aggravated battery, felony domestic crimes, stalking, aggravated assault, and attempted murder, with the statutory elements for each

  • Financial crimes investigation: fraud, credit card fraud, fraudulent returns, forgery, and check fraud

  • Drafting subpoenas, search warrants, and arrest warrants that meet legal standards and hold up under challenge

  • Victim and suspect interview technique for complete, usable statements

  • Writing investigative case reports and probable cause affidavits that prosecutors can move forward on without requesting rework
