Islay Allen-Hopkins: Oud Solo - Free Lunchtime Concert
About the Artist
Doors open 30' before start time
The Oud is a 6-course, 11-string instrument with a long and rich history, connecting in a direct historical line across continents to the lute and guitar. Islay Allen-Hopkins presents a captivating and delicate performance of classical Makam music, alongside original modal music compositions and improvisations. As well as the performance, some of the history and technical elements of the music will be presented, such as the microtonal systems and ornamentation found in the Oud's repertoire, made possible by its fretless nature.
