    Israel: From "A start-up nation" to "A shut-down nation"

"From a start-up nation to a shut down nation" was a slogan commonly chanted by protestors at demonstrations within the Zionist state against their government preceding the Israeli genocide in Gaza - as early as February 2023 to be precise.

The ongoing genocide in Gaza has claimed the lives of more than 50,000 Palestinians including more than 16,000 children over the past 11 months. Approaching it's first anniversary, the genocide has destroyed the lives of 2.3 million people in the Gaza Strip, and of thousands in the occupied West Bank. The UN estimated that 70% of the houses in Gaza were destroyed, alongside almost all hospitals, universities, schools, and places of worship. Rubble in Gaza is estimated to take years to clear up.

Although physical damage to the Zionist state has been significantly less in comparison, the prospect and future of the Zionist state is no doubt headed towards destruction. The Zionist regime has become more and more of a pariah state to the international community.

"No state on Earth has been able to inflict so much damage to the Israeli economy as the State of Israel itself, and the result is growing indications that the Israeli economy has reached an impasse, with no path forward as long as the state remains an apartheid Zionist state rejected by the whole world except the U.S and Germany." Writes Dr. Shir Hever, member of the Boycott National Committee.

The damaging toll of the genocide in Gaza is mounting on the Zionist state where more than 46,000 businesses have gone bankrupt since October 2023, tourism has stopped, Israel’s credit rating was lowered, Israeli bonds are sold at the prices of almost “junk bonds” levels, and the foreign investments that have already dropped by 60% in the first quarter of 2023 (as a result of the policies of Israel’s far-right government before October 7) show no prospects of recovery.

With than 500,000 Israelis reported to have left the country without coming back after October 7th, are we starting to see the end of the Zionist settler colonial project in Palestine?

This webinar will delve into the details of how the genocidal war on Gaza, alongside the international community's mobilisation with the Palestinian struggle including the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions(BDS) movement, are impacting the Zionist state.

The webinar features a conversation with Dr. Shir Hever who is deeply involved in researching methods and ways to pressure the state of Israel into complying to its obligations under International Law by BDS mechanisms.

Dr. Shir Hever is the coordinator of the military embargo campaign for the BNC (Boycott National Committee) of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement

This event is hosted by Palestine Justice Movement Sydney and Free Palestine Melbourne, in collaboration with Australian Friends of Palestine Association, Friends of Palestine Western Australia, Palestine Action Group Canberra, Tasmanian Palestine Advocacy Network, Palestine Solidarity Network Aotearoa, and Justice for Palestine Magan-djin.
