ISRAELISM

Tāmaki Loves Palestine & Dayenu are holding a screening of ISRAELISM at the Academy Cinema (next to the Auckland City Library).
The film duration is 80 minutes and we invite you to join us after for a drink in the foyer.
"ISRAELISM's release comes at a key moment for Israel and its relationship with the US and the Jewish diaspora. Protests in Israel against the right-wing ruling government’s plans to overhaul the judiciary system and further undermine democracy dominate today’s news from the region.
Even longtime defenders of Israel like New York Times columnist Tom Friedman have grown increasingly critical of the Israeli government and anxious about its direction. American Jews are more willing to criticize Israel than at any time in recent memory, with 25% of all American Jews and 38% of Jews under 40 agreeing with the statement “Israel is an apartheid state."
Israelism looks at how we got here, what the debate in the Jewish community is like at this moment, and where it might go from here."
Quotes from endorsees of the film -
- Ilana Glazer - "‘Israelism validated instincts I had growing up a caucasian American Jew, deconstructing the mythology around Zionism. This film helped me sort out confusing narratives, and strengthened my Jewish instincts for collective liberation."
- Gabor Mate - "Israelism is such an important film"
- Naomi Klein - "You get to see people actually change their minds."
Proceeds will go to ReliefAid - a registered charity led by NZ-er Mike Seawright working to get food and water to people in Gaza.
