Renaissance Singers - It's Showtime - YouTube
Description
It’s Showtime – Songs of Stage and Screen is promising ninety minutes packed with favourite songs from some of the most popular musicals; Porgy and Bess, Westside Story, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Chess, and of course, Cats – just to name a few, with a small handful of new and exciting surprises thrown in that truly deserve their place among these great classics.
The 2:30pm concert on Saturday Sept 12th in Pathways at St Andrews will be recorded and released late Tuesday for you to watch on YouTube. As soon as it becomes available you will be sent your link to the concert that you can use at any time over the next two weeks.
It’s Showtime isn’t just a static concert of fabulous music though. Ken Benn’s narration will link the musical numbers to tell a well-crafted story. Many pieces will be sung a capella, others will be accompanied by Joanna Harrington’s nimble fingers on piano and Ralph Sims swinging beat on drums.
Just as there is no musical without a story, movement is also a given, and while the choir isn’t likely to break into a dance routine, they won’t be staying strictly in their places either with choir members stepping forward to deliver solo lines as they take the parts of well-loved characters. This concert is all about celebrating the music that has brought joy to all, dance, drama, and storytelling, music that has shown us the seediest side of humanity, the ache of longing, the indomitable feeling of hope, and the ecstasy of being in love.
