Event description

No need to wait in a field all night. The Great (Marbled) Pumpkin(s) can be found at Indigo Whimsy! You'll learn a bit about the traditional art of paper marbling, while decorating 2-3 small paper mache pumpkins, and possibly a ghost or a skull. Each participant will go home with three Halloween cuties. Choose from four sessions, each one an hour and 15 minutes - October 19 (11am* and 1pm) and October 21 (6:15pm and 7:45pm). The 11am session on October 19 is geared toward families with younger kids who may need more assistance.

Paper marbling is an ancient technique of floating ink or paint on water or another bath and then capturing the results on paper or fabric. The concept dates back to the 12th century in Japan with Suminagashi. However, the techniques we'll be using align more closely to Ebru, a Turkish marbling artform that originated in the 16th century.

This fast and fun 1.25 hour-long session will introduce you to the basics of water marbling. You'll then receive three Halloween cuties (including paper mache mini pumpkins and white resin skulls and ghosts). For each item, you'll choose your colors, drop them onto the marbling bath, and swirl them into gorgeous patterns to dip your cutie in. Design a coordinated set or make each one unique. We suggest bringing a small waterproof tray or container to hold your items in case they aren't dry when it's time to leave.

This workshop is intended for individual participants ages 13+. Participants between the ages of 5 and 13 may attend with an adult partner. Adult partners may opt to work with their child to decorate the three items for free or purchase a separate ticket to decorate their own set. Please use your best judgement on your child's ability to follow directions with some guidance.

While our goal will be to keep the paint on the bath and the pumpkins, it can still get messy. Please wear an apron or clothes you don't mind "decorating."

ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST HAVE A WAIVER ON FILE. You can print one to complete in advance or we will have hard copies available on site. Please also refer to our parking and accessibility information.
