Event description

THIS IS AN EVENT FOR UNIVERSITY HOUSE MEMBERS AND THEIR GUESTS.

University House Members and Guests are invited to a special dinner on the History of Italian Food, presented by Cassamarca Professor of Italian Studies Andrea Rizzi.

Join us for a fascinating journey into the surprising history of Italian cuisine. Discover why Italian food was not exactly “born” in Italy, and learn how iconic dishes such as spaghetti alla carbonara and tiramisù are only a few decades old. Mamma mia—does the Italian food actually exist?

Andrea Rizzi will explore this question while you enjoy an ‘authentic’ Italian dinner paired with fine wines.

Andrea Rizzi is Cassamarca Professor of Italian Studies at the University of Melbourne and Chair of the Australasian Centre for Italian Studies. A literary and translation historian, he has published widely on the Italian Renaissance. He is a former Australian Research Council Future Fellow and Fellow at Villa I Tatti, the Harvard Center for Italian Renaissance Studies. He teaches Italian language, culture—and yes, food history.
