Tight hips? Struggling to touch your toes? Or maybe balancing on one leg feels wobbly no matter how hard you try. These are common frustrations, and they all come back to the same thing: how we use our feet, legs, and hips.

In this 1.5-hour Iyengar intensive, we'll explore standing poses and hip opening work to unlock strength, mobility, and ease in the lower body. With detailed alignment and creative use of props, you'll learn how to:

  • Strengthen and mobilise feet, ankles and knees for long-term health

  • Open tight hips safely and effectively, without straining the knees or lower back

  • Discover micro-adjustments that unlock new depth and clarity in familiar poses

  • Discover how to ground the body and steady the mind

The energetics of standing poses:

In Iyengar yoga, standing poses are considered the foundation and for good reason. They connect you to the earth element, cultivating the deep sense of security and stability from which everything else can grow. When your relationship with the ground is strong, your entire nervous system can relax.

These poses generate heat and activate dormant energy while training your mind to stay calm under physical challenge. They teach us what we need to attempt more advanced poses such as inversions. True grounding through the feet creates effortless lift through the spine, transforming how you carry yourself in daily life.

Who is this for?

This workshop is open to all levels. Newer students will gain confidence in the Iyengar approach, while experienced practitioners can refine and deepen classical poses in ways that are not always explored in regular classes.

What to expect:

This is a focused, hands-on workshop with detailed instruction, individual adjustments, and plenty of time to explore each pose. The pace is slower than a regular class, allowing you to really understand the alignment principles that make poses effective and open the body in ways you may not have thought possible for you.

What to bring:

Please bring a mat. All other props are provided.

About the teacher:

Lou Lemaistre is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher who has been teaching yoga, leading workshops and retreats for the past 5 years. Her teaching is clear, encouraging, and detail-oriented, with a focus on making yoga both safe and deeply effective for every student.

Lou is passionate about the Iyengar method for its precision, intelligence, and use of props, which open the door to experiencing poses in their full depth. She believes that yoga is not just about flexibility or strength, but about cultivating awareness, balance, and resilience that extend far beyond the mat.
