DAY 1 (LD): PORT MACQUARIE TO YAMBA Thursday 30 October 2025
Welcome to our four-day tour to Grafton for the Jacaranda Festival. As early as 1866, the Grafton Council resolved to consider by-laws for planting and preserving trees and shrubs in the streets and recreation grounds. There are now some 7000 trees in Grafton and many beautiful parks. The most famous of trees is of course, the Jacaranda. Leaving Port Macquarie, we head up the coast to Taylors Arm, an area of undulating landscape and state forests. Here we visit Perry’s Lemon Myrtle for a talk, as well as morning tea for a taste of their products. Lemon myrtle is native to Australia, and its popularity is ever-increasing, perhaps due to its rarity. From here, we continue through Coffs Harbour at The Clog Barn, where we enjoy lunch in Big Oma’s Coffee House before experiencing the colour and charm of Holland. We continue through to Yamba, where we settle in for the next 3 nights.

Wander through the schoolroom’s display depicting the historical record of public education and access the ‘Old Kirk’, the adjoining church and view the current exhibition. We enjoy morning tea here before we head to Maclean, known as the “Scottish town” and noted for its historical buildings. we’ll visit Ferry Park Gallery, which showcases many local artisans’ quality work. Right next door is Oliver’s, where we enjoy lunch. There is time to browse in the Scottish Corner and perhaps find our clan and tartan! We make our way to Iluka, a beautiful coastal town close to one of Australia’s rarest and most accessible rainforest remnants. we have free time to explore the town before returning ferry ride to Yamba.

They will take us on a tour through the Olive Grove, show us the animals (alpacas and Dorper sheep, to name a couple) in the paddocks and serve a delicious homemade morning tea.
