Shenzo Gregorio, Multi-Instrumentalist, composer and improviser has been working for 22 years on the road performing as a professional musician.
Graduating with a classical violin degree in 1997 from The Queensland Conservatorium, Shenzo has since forged a very diverse and varied musical career. In 1999 he turned the classical music world upside down (literally!) by becoming the first violinist to take classical music and fly it through the air using stunt rigging. The act (Shenzo’s Electric Stunt Orchestra) toured Australia and parts of the world for over thirteen years.
In 2004 Shenzo joined the Sydney based string quartet ‘Fourplay’. Shenzo’s addition on viola turned the group onto a more original footing, with experimentations in improvisations and eventually more original compositions. Their recent collaborations with renowned author Neil Gaiman have seen them perform at New Yorks’ Carnegie Hall, as well as the Sydney Opera House and London’s Barbican Centre.
Shenzo also freelances as a musical director on large scale, festival funded community events. Opera Australia’s first indigenous musical ‘Yarrabah, The Musical’ won Best Community Event in 2013 and was the subject of an SBS documentary of which Shenzo was co-composer and musical director. He has written a total of 5 musicals with various organisations, and 13 mini operas with Sydney company - WotOpera.
As a performer, Shenzo is constantly adapting his skills to a number of musical environments, ranging from classical orchestras to Indian, Jazz and Spanish world music ensembles as well as providing music for theatre and circus. He has performed as a featured soloist with groups such as Camarata of St John Chamber Orchestra, The Doch Gypsy Orchestra, Monsieur Camembert, Flamenco Fire, Orchestra of the Underground, The Tango Saloon, Circle of Rhythm, Club Swizzle, Gravity and other Myths, Saruzu Quartet, Dale Cana Flamenco company, Arte Kanela Flamenco, Bandaluzia Flamenco (SYD), Sebastian Sanchez (RUSSIA) All Jigged out, (UK)
