Folk punk, fire and pure feeling: James Brook tours new album ”Yandoit” this autumn.

Folk punk activist James Brook is hitting Australian stages this autumn.

James Brook is no stranger to the road; he’s toured extensively across Europe and Australia, released 11 albums and four EPs, and fronted bands including Boarding Party, Skreechtramps and European punk outfit Ecowar. He’s also a member of folk punk collective The Currency.

His latest solo album, Yandoit, represents his most polished and mature work yet, blending folk, Australiana and edgy alternative politics into something that’s equal parts heartfelt and confrontational.

Yandoit takes its name from a Dja Dja Wurrung word meaning travel, and the record earns that title.

Written during his travel across some of the world’s most intense landscapes; war-torn Ukraine, Africa and Peru during pandemic lockdown, and grounded during quieter stretches in the bush around Castlemaine, Victoria, the album moves between political anthems and more sensitive folk moods, exploring Australian history and the kind of deeper emotions that life on the edge tends to surface.

This autumn, Brook brings it all live, with a guitar sound that ranges from classic folk to more Billy Braggesque electric sounds.

Joining Brook at the Dissent Bar show is a support acts worth arriving early for: Ducks in Trees is the project name for CJ Adams music. This local Canberra act is gaining a lot of attention for his original style of folkie, indie, bluesy, guitars, banjos.
