Event description

Join us for a casual Wednedsay Talk with artist Alexandra Copeland.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Alexandra Copeland grew up in Warrandyte, Victoria in a community of potters and artists. After graduating from Swinburne Technical College in 1968 she worked in the film industry, and since 1969 has practiced as an artist. At her first ceramics exhibition, in 1983, work was acquired by the National Gallery of Victoria and the National Gallery of Australia. She has exhibited her work in public or commercial galleries every year since then.

From 1989 Alexandra had eight exhibitions of ceramics and paintings in Japan. In 1992 she was awarded an Australia Council grant to work in ceramics studios in Italy and Turkey. Since then she has had eight residencies at Dartington Pottery in England and twelve in Jingdezhen in China.

In 2003 Alexandra was invited to design carpets to be woven in Pakistan by refugee weavers from Afghanistan. The project continues with carpets hand knotted by women weavers in Afghanistan.
