Jamming With Snapping Shrimp Session 2
Description
Science and Music Workshop
Jamming with Snapping Shrimp
Ever wondered what the abundant reefs around Tasmania sound like? Emily Sheppard has been recording underwater sounds of the Great Southern Reef for several years. She will bring her hydrophone recordings for us to listen to and learn about the sounds made. Snapping shrimp tend to dominate the soundscape of healthy reef environments.
Listen like a scientist and play your findings
Emily will share recordings of work she has created with underwater reef recordings and violin, providing a taster of what is possible. Then, in small groups, improvise sound and music in response to, and with, her reef recordings.
If you attended workshop 1 you will have the opportunity to further develop your ideas and perhaps bring your own recording.
Then at 6pm join LIMA for The World’s Smallest Improvised Music Festival Opening Night at 6pm, featuring a performance by Emily and workshop participants (optional)
Emily will return to Sawtooth ARI on Saturday, Nov 7 for an artist talk and demo at midday.
Tickets $10 (scholarships available if needed, please email info@limatas.com)
Workshop 2 is free for Workshop 1 participants - use the access code.
