    Event description

Please join paper conservator Madalyn P. Meehan in an adhesive workshop on Japanese wheat starch paste. Japanese wheat starch paste is an adhesive with a long history, dynamic uses, and excellent aging properties. Typically used with paper, WSP is a water-based adhesive that is made by cooking the adhesive. Once cooled, it can be diluted to various consistencies and strengths. Because it is a water-based adhesive, it can be reversed. Japanese wheat starch paste has been tested for decades and does not yellow, become brittle, or attract pests.

This workshop will cover the properties of Japanese wheat starch paste, how to make it from cooking to sieving to diluting, and examples of different implementations. At the end of the workshop, time will be set aside for answering questions.
