Event description

Jazmourian Ensemble will play their “Alchemy of Ancient Song Roads” program for their Braidwood concert.  Their music is an intercultural mingling between the languages of Persian classical music and early western music.  These two traditions developed in dialogue with each other, even as they remain distinctively different.  A language reflecting dialogue, emotions, spirituality and nature emerges as unifying both traditions.

The concert will consist of six original pieces of 10-15 minutes each.  Chabuk Savar describes an early morning horse ride, listening to birdsong and experiencing the beauty and depth of nature.  Karavankosh describes a journey in the Persian desert, experiencing a desert storm while making camp, and journeying through the wide expanse of the landscape.

The Jazmourian Ensemble is currently Ensemble-in-Residence at the ANU School of Music, and presented their debut Australian concert at the Ainslie Arts Centre, Canberra, in October last year, supported by ArtsACT.   Malek Mohammadi Nejad (Iranian setar, shurangiz, voice) and Anna McDonald (Iranian kamancheh) bring their vast experience within their own cultures to meet in music, creating compositions which have been described as uplifting, profound, heavenly and joyful.
